Mildura Base Public Hospital Foundation Brings Skin Screening Truck with Canfield’s IntelliStudio® to Australia’s Gather Round

On a mission to improve access to timely skin screening services and raise awareness about skin cancer in Australia, the Mildura Base Public Hospital Foundation (MBPH) created a multipurpose screening truck equipped with Canfield’s cutting-edge IntelliStudio®. Recently, the foundation launched this mobile screening service at the popular AFL Gather Round Festival. Terry Welch, Chief Executive Officer at MBPH, emphasizes early preventative measures, early detection, and early intervention are all important for good patient outcomes.

Committed to customer driven innovation, Canfield designed a compact wall-mounted version of IntelliStudio® to be utilized for this initiative. IntelliStudio® is an automated total body imaging solution with integrated body mapping for both overview and dermoscopic images producing efficient reviews, assessment, and monitoring.

One challenge is the general hesitancy of patients to schedule their recommended skin screening appointments. MBPH shared videos showcasing the total body photography process in the screening truck to inform and encourage screening. One video shared on Instagram featured Hamish McLachlan, a popular sports broadcaster and the first to try the screening service, sharing his experience.

Utilizing IntelliStudio, the healthcare professionals can capture both standard and cross-polarized studio-quality photos of the entire body in under 2 minutes. This optimized workflow helps reduce prolonged wait times that often discourage or delay proper care. In the video, McLachlan admits to procrastinating his own skin checks, however, after experiencing the fast, easy screening process (Under 20 minutes to complete), he encouraged others to get their skin checked immediately.

Melbourne Football Club CEO Paul Guerra echoes this in a separate video shared on his experience utilizing the service. Ultimately, the service provided Guerra with confidence, knowledge and comfort: “I am much more comforted by the fact that I bothered to walk in, get something done, and now have something to follow up on and catch it early.”

The MBPH Foundation is committed to providing access to care and education throughout all of Northern Victoria, NSW and South Australia in their multipurpose screening truck using Canfield’s proven medical dermatology solutions.

Hamish McLachlan shares: “I’m from a regional area in South Australia; we never had any of these facilities. To be able to pull up in rural remote communities and offer this service is incredible. . .and I think it’s going to change a lot of people’s lives.”

Canfield Scientific is proud to be part of this initiative and remains committed to enhancing patient care worldwide.
