Techzine Spotlight: Dr. Margrit Brinkmann on the Game-Changing VECTRA® WB360
A recent article on Techzine highlights the growing importance of advanced total body technology in areas with rising skin cancer rates and increased staff shortages in healthcare. Showcasing Canfield Scientific’s VECTRA® WB360, the article shares how the innovative whole-body 3D imaging system is being utilized for enhancing screening examinations and revolutionizing research. With a growing presence in Europe and worldwide, VECTRA WB360 has become synonymous with medical innovation in the field of dermatology. By streamlining lesion surveillance and reducing the workload of both dermatologists and researchers, the system is a particularly valuable asset in regions that are facing rising skin cancer rates and increasing staff shortages in healthcare.
Dr. Brinkmann Kliniek expertise center recently installed two VECTRA WB360 systems to assist renowned dermatologist Dr. Margrit Brinkmann and her staff in identifying suspicious lesions among hundreds of lesions - a task akin to finding a needle in a haystack, as Dr. Brinkmann describes. This innovative system captures the entire skin surface of a patient in seconds, generating a detailed 3D avatar for comprehensive analysis. Powered by Canfield's state-of-the-art DermaGraphix® software, the high-resolution 3D images are pivotal in the surveillance of pigmented lesions. The software enables dermatologists like Dr. Margrit Brinkmann to examine individual lesions, capture detailed dermoscopic images, and monitor skin changes over time. Dr. Brinkmann underscores the system's value in enhancing efficiency, “If someone has a hundred moles, you can’t go through them all one-by-one. With this device, you can view and assess them all at once.” This, she further noted, “keeps skin cancer care more accessible and relieves the pressure on hospitals and specialists.”
In addition, Prof. H. Peter Soyer, a prominent researcher and dermatologist leading research with the VECTRA WB360 in Australia, attended this clinic to emphasize the importance of regular whole-body scans for prevention and awareness. His team’s research, the world’s largest melanoma cohort study led by ACEMID, recently received the prestigious Eureka Award for its remarkable use of the WB360 in advancing skin cancer research.
